Fall has officially arrived here in Western New York—there’s a slight chill in the air, the leaves are changing, and football season is in full swing (Go Bills!). While autumn may be a quieter time for New York State grants, it’s the perfect season to start planning for next year’s opportunities.
One way to get ahead is by certifying your municipality in one of the many programs NYS offers. These certifications not only open doors to exclusive grants and provide additional points on applications, but they also demonstrate your commitment to improving the quality of life in your community.
This month’s newsletter highlights three valuable certifications: Pro-Housing Community, Climate Smart Community, and Tree City USA. These programs address critical areas—housing, climate change, and forestry—that are vital to revitalizing your community, keeping residents, and attracting new homeowners and renters.
Pro-Housing Community Certification is a forward-thinking program designed to help local governments tackle the housing crisis in New York. By becoming certified, your municipality can gain access to important funding streams and take concrete steps toward addressing housing needs. Climate Smart Communities (CSC) is another excellent program helping local governments reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to a changing climate. This certification boosts your grant applications, offers access to EV rebates, and provides free technical assistance. Finally, Tree City USA certification shows funders your commitment to a healthy urban forest and sustainability.
